Africa is facing the third wave of military coups, posing serious threats to the institutionalisation of politics and power.

What characterises these coups and what is causing their resurgence? How best should critical stakeholders respond to the challenge and restore sustainable democratisation?

He specialises and has published on comparative African institutions and democratisation.

Inge Amundsen

Senior Researcher, CMI

Inge Amundsen is a political scientist focusing on democratic institutionalisation, political economy, parliaments, political parties, political corruption, and natural resources revenue management.

His main study areas are Angola, Malawi, Palestine, Bangladesh, Nigeria, and Ghana. Amundsen made his PhD in comparative African studies at the University of Tromsø in 1997. He was Research Director at CMI from 2000-2003, Director of the U4 Anti-Corruption Resource Centre from 2002-2006, and he has coordinated three CMI institutional cooperation programmes.
