The Norwegian Transparency Act (Åpenhetsloven)
The Transparency Act entered into force on 1 July 2022. The full name of the act is Act relating to enterprises' transparency and work on fundamental human rights and decent working conditions (Transparency Act).
It is the Norwegian Consumer Authority that monitors compliance with the provisions of the Act, for more information see their website on The Norwegian Transparency Act.
The purpose of the Act is to promote companies' respect for human rights and decent working conditions in own operation, supply chain and other business relationships, as well as ensure the public has access to information on how the company handles negative consequences for these conditions.
The law's three duties:
- Carry out Due Diligence assessments in accordance with the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises
- Account for the Due Diligence assessments
- Provide information upon request from the public
