The impact of context is largely ignored in international health systems research. Instead, there is a steady search for models, where success stories from one country may be seen as blueprints for health systems in other countries. As an input to the study of the Ethiopian primary health care system, which is often hailed as a model for other African countries, Olivier de Sardan and Claire Wendland, both with extensive experience in the analysis of health services in Africa, will give their presentations.
