Mapping peacebuilding interventions in Mozambique and Tanzania

CMI researchers Aslak Orre, Carmeliza Rosario and Egna Rachel Isaias Sidumo have won a tender from The German development agency GIZ for mapping peacebuilding interventions in Mozambique and Tanzania.

The project is part of GIZ’s efforts to support the Mozambican government in implementing two projects on peace and security in northern Mozambique, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO).

"It is positive that many actors have been interested in supporting peacebuilding and humanitarian initiatives in the conflict-affected areas in the north of Mozambique. Yet, there is a large need for better coordination with Mozambique’s government efforts and those of the many development and humanitarian partners", the researchers say. 

Together with partners from Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin, CMI will deliver a comprehensive mapping of peacebuilding interventions, with a focus on the context of the armed conflict in Cabo Delgado province. The CMI team has extensive research experience on this topic and is also involved in the topically related research project “Cabo Delgado: Conflict, Resilience and Reconstruction”, funded by the Research Council of Norway (RCN).

The new GIZ-funded project will run until November 2024 .
