Norway has been supporting the development of natural resources management in Tanzania since the 1970s, focusing on fisheries, forestry, wildlife and tourism. CMI is currently engaged in the planning of a new Environment and Natural Resources Management Programme for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism. The main objective of the planning exercise is to develop a new programme to be implemented with financial support from the Governments of Norway and Tanzania. The detailed planning exercise is co-ordinated by the Economic Research Bureau at the University of Dar es Salaam, and conducted in collaboration with key Ministries, institutions and stakeholders. The new programme will be in line with the both the Joint Assistance Strategy for Tanzania and the new Norwegian Action Plan for the Environment in Development Cooperation.
