Identity Politics in the Borderlands
in Contributions to Nepalese Studies vol. 42 no. 1 pp. 1-4
Introduction to a special issue that examines how caste, class, regional and ethnic identities are shaped by the changing economic and social conditions in contemporary Nepal, and how these dynamics in turn feed into politics at the local and national level. Five detailed case studies and a statistical analysis are presented. The case studies are based on intensive, on-site fieldwork in selected sites in different parts of Nepal.
