Many are worried that the UK’s new Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office will see development assistance relegated to being just another tool for pursuing national interests. There is potential for the merger to bring new opportunities in tackling corruption. Whether or not these will be realised will strongly depend on the UK maintaining a ‘development’ rather than an ‘aid’ mindset.
