In this panel, Samah Khalf Allah will discuss the book (Un)doing Resistance with one of the  authors Ruba El Melik. The book describes how the regime of Omar al-Bashir (1989-2019) used authoritarianism and political Islam to oppress arts, artists and artistic infrastructure and how it shaped the cultural outlook on art and its production in Sudan. The book offers a narrative that reveals the thought, theory and principle which shaped artistic resistance from 1989 until the 2019 revolution and how it can lead to (un)doing of resistance of the war on arts in Sudan’s contemporary history.  The authors offer a reproduction of artists’ collective memory’.
