BABELS (Border Analysis and Border Ethnographies in Liminal Situations) is a new project where an international team of researchers will study migrants moving through and settling in border cities, towns and hubs in the Middle East and Europe. The project is led by Professor Michel Agier (EHESS, Paris) and funded by the French Science Foundation (2016-18). Are John Knudsen is member of the Beirut research team that focuses on the urban insertions of migrants and refugees in the Sabra-Shatila neighbourhood. Knudsen's research targets refugees living in the Gaza (Hospital) Buildings, a multi-story complex north of the Shatila refugee camp.
