The research programme 'Analysing political processes in the context of multi-party elections' has studied the 2001 electoral process in Zambia focussing on the institutions aimed at securing democratic accountability:
A) Institutions of representation, comprising the electoral channel, the parties and local level democracy
B) Institutions securing horizontal accoutability, herein the role of the judicial system
C) Institutions outside the formal government structures in place to secure democratic and economic accountability, hereunder civil society and private economic actors.
The research collaboration is carried out by the Chr. Michelsen Institute, Institute of Social and Economic Research, University of Zambia, in co-operation with the Nordic Consulting Group. The project has been funded by the Royal Norwegian Embassy(REN).
