SNAC funding for 8 proposals on Sudan research

8 scholars have been awarded funding from the Sudan-Norway Academic Cooperation (SNAC) for their research proposals. The projects cover a broad range of topics, from youth unemployment to the effects of internal displacement, and gender power relations.

As part of the SNAC’s aim to conduct high quality and collaborative research on current challenges in Sudan, the project issued a call for research proposals from Sudanese researchers in Sudan and Sudanese researchers who have been displaced to neighbouring countries due to the ongoing war.

The research proposals were evaluated by an independent scientific committee and selected based on a number of criteria regarding quality and relevance, academic collaboration, gender, feasibility and implementation plan, and the potential for academic impact. The committee reviewed 30 proposals, prioritizing proposals that were highly relevant to the current situation in the country while accommodating early-career researchers, female led projects, and proposals feasible to implement in the context of an on-going war.

The scholars who have been awarded funding are:

  • Abdulhameed Elias Suliman for the research proposal ‘Digital inclusion and economic empowerment of women entrepreneurs in Kassala state: Overcoming barriers to resilience and growth’
  • Adam Babekir Mohamed for the research proposal ‘Borderland communities in crisis: The effects of recent conflicts in Sudan and Ethiopia’
  • Al Radia Hassan El Ginawi for the research proposal ‘From crisis to crisis: Reversed displacement of IDPs in Sudan’
