Revenue management: Corruption challenges and redistribution
Petroleum revenues pose some serious corruption challenges. This paper/presentation depicts how corruption in the petroleum sector adds to the resource curse, and in particular, how corruption can undermine the institutions and practices of good governance and revenue distribution. With high levels of corruption and economic mismanagement of revenues, the government take will be reduced, competition will be hampered, and both economic and political monopolistic tendencies will be reinforced. The ‘resource curse’ problems can intensify, in particular through political corruption, which is the practice of extraction and power preservation.
