Writing Rights: Human Rights Research at the Chr. Michelsen Institute 1984-2004
Timeframe: Jan 2004 - Dec 2004
Human rights have been an important area of research at the Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI) for the past 20 years, and continue to be so today. This anthology contains nine articles which reflect some of the key research themes and issues addressed by the Human Rights Programme at CMI. The articles have been put together with a view to highlighting the main contributions CMI researchers have made to the field of human rights, while also pointing forward to the role the Institute is likely to play in the future evolution of the field.
The book consists of three parts capturing three main themes in human rights research at CMI. Part 1 explores challenges in promoting human rights and consolidating democracy in developing countries. Part 2 discusses the philosophical foundations of the human rights perspective, and the position of social and economic rights. Part 3 explores ways in which to describe and deal with human rights violations.
This anthology is published to mark the 75th anniversary of the Chr. Michelsen Institute.
