Accommodating difference: Human rights, citizenship and identity in diverse societies
Timeframe: Jan 2003 - Dec 2004
Funder: Research Council of Norway
A five year Joint Strategic Programme of the Chr. Michelsen Institute and the Norwegian Institute of Human Rights, with the purpose and research aim of contributing to both the accumulating international research within development studies and the expanding international human rights system. It has a multi-disciplinary approach and will include research projects within anthropology, political science and law and aims at integrating the anthropological empirical-based "bottom-up" approach with the "top-down" and normative human rights framework in political science and law.
A common approach for researchers participating in the programme is the study of the relationship between citizenship and diversity, how citizenship policies can be nurtured to accommodate differences.
