Political Geographer focusing on migration, transnationalism and governance
Cathrine Talleraas is Senior Researcher at the Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI) and the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO). She holds a PhD in Human Geography from the University of Oslo (2020).
Talleraas' work focuses on migration governance and politics, the links between migration and development, and transnational living. At CMI, she is project leader of the project "Effects of Externalisation: EU Migration Management in Africa and the Middle East", and co-leader of "Influx of Ukrainian, Russian and Belarusian Migrants: Integration and Governance Dynamics in Nordic and Baltic States". At PRIO, Talleraas is engaged in the "CONMIG" project.
Talleraas is coordinator of CMI's Migration and Humanitarianism Research Group and the Climate Change & Migration Initiative, and co-chair of the IMISCOE Standing Committee "Migration Politics and Governance". Talleraas has previously been engaged in several projects, including: "Cross-Migration", "TRANSWEL", "Understanding the Root Causes and Drivers of Migration", "Sustainable Migration", "NATION" and "PREMIG".
Talleraas holds an MSc in Migration Studies from the University of Oxford, and an MA in Human Geography from the University of Oslo. In her PhD research, Talleraas studied how state institutions engage with people who lead transnational lives. Her doctoral thesis "Institutionalising transnationalism: The national welfare system’s encounter with people who lead transnational lives" is available here.
